Faculty e-learning coordinators

Faculty e-learning coordinators are your “ombudsmen” in communication with central departments involved in the provision of e-learning at Charles University. If you have a request that you would like to have addressed centrally, whether it is a request for a technical solution or a need for special training, please do not hesitate to contact your coordinator. He is the one who always has up-to-date information and knows what is happening at your faculty within elearning. Above all, each coordinator is there to let the right hand know what the left hand is doing.

MOODLE

Moodle login
Log in to all Moodle installations (with a few exceptions) using the data of the Central Authentication Service (CAS), the data is the same as for logging in to the SIS and other UK applications. Login data means your personal number (UKČO) and password. IMPORTANT ! To log in to Moodle, it is necessary to have a verified e-mail in CAS, because Moodle takes it from CAS and needs it for a number of activities. It is not enough to have an e-mail in SIS! You can verify your e-mail here. Teachers who participate in teaching at CU must have a contract with CU and therefore an account at CAS CU. This in turn entitles the holder to hold a UK card. The CU card can be picked up at one of the card issuing centers, see Card service centre. In the case of teaching external students, the course is set up to install Moodle for further education and it is necessary to contact the Moodle Helpdesk to set up an account: moodle-help@ruk.cuni.cz.

Manuals[PDF]:

If you cannot log in to Moodle because you have forgotten your password, remember that you need to change/reset your password in CAS at https://ldapuser.cuni.cz. Moodle will automatically register the password change the next time you log in. If you have problems changing your password in CAS, please contact the CAS administrator at: casadmin@cuni.cz

Setting up a Moodle course for teachers
Currently, you can request to set up an online course on several Moodle installations according to the following parameters:

  • Moodle for Teaching 1 | dl1.cuni.cz | For users with a Central Authentication Service (CAS) account
  • Moodle for Teaching 2 | dl2.cuni.cz | For users with a Central Authentication Service (CAS) account
  • Moodle 3 | dl3.cuni.cz | For testing large numbers of students and for the admissions process
  • Moodle for Lifelong Learning | dlcv.cuni.cz | For lifelong learning and for access by external users
  • Moodle MOOC | mooc.cuni.cz | For Massive Open Online Courses CU + Lectures for Ukrainian students
  • Moodle for Course Hosting | dlk.cuni.cz | For hosting courses by external entities

Important! If the course is also intended for external users (without a CAS account), then it is necessary to request the creation of a course on the “Moodle for Lifelong Learning” server, where access accounts can be created for external users.

An employee of Charles University can request the establishment of a course by sending an electronic application https://moodleoffice.cuni.cz/form. Courses are created automatically by the system, so please pay attention to filling in all fields of the form carefully. Do not use abbreviations. You will be notified by email when the course has been set up. Note: If you are not sure which server to set up your course on, contact the Moodle Helpdesk: moodle-help@ruk.cuni.cz Step by step:

  1. In the Internet browser, open the questionnaire for setting up a course in Moodle on the page: https://moodleoffice.cuni.cz/form
  2. You will be prompted to log in. Use your CAS account to do so
  3. Once you have successfully logged in, select the type of request in the left menu (new course, reassignment, deletion, test course, Moodle entrance exam, etc.)
  4. Fill in the form fields. Follow the instructions on the page.
  5. After submitting the form, you will see a confirmation page with a summary of the information you have filled in and information that the data has been sent for processing.
  6. You will also receive a confirmation of receipt of your request to set up a course by email to the address on the form.
  7. The course will be set up within 48 hours of receipt of your request.
Course Life Cycle
The lifetime of the course is usually one semester. After that, the course should be archived and a new course created for the next run. This is due to the obligation to keep written forms of study control until the end of the following academic year, which is derived from Article 8, Paragraph 10 Code of study and examination. This obligation applies not only to outputs from full-time study, but also to electronic data from all distance learning support systems. Therefore, we recommend using the following procedure after the end of the semester:

  • If you have assessed activities in your course such as assignments or tests, then we recommend to ask the Helpdesk to archive the course and create a new course including the course content (only delete user data). Therefore, contact the Moodle Helpdesk by email moodle-help@ruk.cuni.cz
  • If you do not have any assessed activities in your course and you are only using it as a repository for study material, you just need to reset the course. Because resetting is a non-reversible activity, we recommend backing up the course beforehand.
